Testosterone-driven sexuality is different from estrogen-driven sexuality.

Here I draw on my own experiences as well as the extensive anecdotal experience of other trans people. I don’t think there’s another option, because sexology is a terrible discipline and Aella focuses on surveys that tend not to capture the rich phenomenological experiences I’m talking about here. But a bunch of trans women managed to nocebo themselves into believing they have a menstrual cycle from taking a static dose of estrogen throughout the month, even though this makes zero sense given everything we know about the reproductive system.¹² So “trans consensus” can be mistaken, and you should take my conclusions with a grain of salt.

I also want to keep my claim narrow. I mean to say that, in general, being on testosterone will shift a specific person’s sexuality one way, and being on estrogen will shift it the other way. I definitely don’t mean to say that all people with testosterone-dominant hormones are one way, and all people with estrogen-dominant hormones are the other way. Many people on estrogen have a sexuality that is far more testosterone-typical than the average person on testosterone; it’s just that if they take testosterone, it will shift them even more in that direction.
