The short stories you find about body horror, sentient nonhumans and weird nonhuman love are always the best part of these linkposts and the main reason I read these.

this is an impressively appealing collection of links and pitches, I have opened like half of these in new tabs despite having much less reading-stuff patience than you such that I'll probably only read like a couple of them in practice

I found the "guess culture" link really interesting. My parents are immigrants from China, and I am one of those people who really really likes it when social rules are made clear to me, and I was thinking that probably it was really lucky that I was raised in the West instead of in China.

But then I wasn't sure? As a second gen immigrant my understanding of Chinese culture is incomplete, but I feel that in the situations illustrated at the link, things are not explicitly said, but everyone knows that things aren't being explicitly said, and if you're smart you can figure it out with reasonable accuracy. Everyone's playing the same game, and the existence of the game is common knowledge, and everyone knows what the rules are.

I think the situations in which I struggle are the ones where, if you ask anyone, they'll say there is no game, but nonetheless there are unspoken rules and people will be offended if you didn't know to follow them.
