I'm probably being That Guy right now, but the attitude of race being the basis of all human interactions is something Ive only run into among urban PMC-aspirants. I've never been around people who called things "white" so much.
Sorry, I'm using jargon, I mean people who compose their lives to look good on LinkedIn. The Professional Managerial Class. Who for some reason keep calling things "white."
I've met several disturbingly-similar people interpersonally who exhibited this behavior in a very studied, intentional way. The sorts of people who either have corporate project-manager jobs, or want them. Everywhere they go, they comment on how it's too white here, the neighborhood or building is too white, they can't talk about anyone without mentioning their Race. And I've met a few recent graduates who seemed to have picked up some of the same habits, but those ones seem to just be doing their normal socialization stuff by it. Sorry, I'm off-topic, it's just where my brain goes when people talk about seeing society in terms of race, and I find it really creepy.
Ah, I see. My social group is slightly lower-class; the sort of people who work minimum wage retail jobs. I've noticed a similar trend here. It's considered "cool" to criticize people for being white, male, heterosexual, and/or cisgender. One of my co-workers was excitedly talking about their new podcast, and another person said "ugh, just what we need, another podcast by a white guy".
I don't think it's necessarily intentional or particularly malicious, it's just "the thing to do". Gets them lots of likes on Twitter, and they like other people who do it, forming a positive feedback loop. I don't get the impression they consider the impact of their behavior much at all.
The most shocking thing to me here was that there was a welfare state to complain about in the 1920s

I'm not left with confidence that I shouldn't worry.
